Happy National Children’s Day!

“Reverend Dr. Charles Leonard of the Universalist Church of the Redeemer in Chelsea, Massachusetts started Children’s Day in 1856 as a special day to Baptize children. He originally named it Rose Day. In 1995, President Clinton proclaimed National Children’s Day as October 8th. He was later followed by President Bush in 2001 who declared the first Sunday in June as National Child’s Day. However, National Children’s Day is generally celebrated the second Sunday in June or October 8th.” 1

Since becoming a Mom, my outlook on kids has changed. Truthfully, I used to be afraid to hold babies. I would avoid being near moms with their babies because I didn’t want to hold a baby. It wasn’t because I didn’t like babies. I was afraid I would drop them. I had absolutely no experience holding a baby. I used to be afraid of toddlers too. Again, it was out of inexperience.

After having a baby myself, I can confidently say that kids just want to play, laugh, giggle, and feel loved. They want to have their little cups filled.

National Children’s Day is a reminder for us all to fill those little cups. As parents, we are building the next generation and it’s our duty to make sure that they are whole and healthy. Need some ideas? Something as simple as doing a craft together, coloring together, or learning about something new can go a long way. National Day Calendar, has shared a great list to spark some ideas…

Start new traditions.

  • Explore the outdoors.

In honor of National Children’s Day, I’ve created a Summer-Themed workbook that you can download for free. It includes summer activities involving matching, coloring, writing, vocabulary, and pre-counting. It also includes puzzles such as a word search and a maze. Feel free to download this free summer workbook for pre-k and kindergarten to share and learn with your children.
