Disengage from Worry, Fear, and Anxiety

This devotion is inspired by my original song Missing Every Day from the album “Work in Progress.”

Missing Every Day is a song about worrying about what tomorrow might bring while missing the present of today. All throughout my life I have anxiously looked forward to the future thinking about how I’m going to do this and that. What I’ve come to realize now is by doing that, I’ve missed out on enjoying where I am in the here and now and being content with that.

It’s great to plan for the future and fantasize about a better time, but we have to balance between obsessing or worrying and being content with the process.

Let’s look at Luke chapter 12 starting at verse 22.

Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!”

In that same passage of Luke, it speaks about flowers growing in the valley and how beautiful God decorates them without them ever having to do anything. If that is how God treats flowers, let’s consider how passionately He loves on us, His most cherished creation!  God knows exactly what we need and he will give to us freely if we just ask.

Luke chapter 12 verse 31 says…

But seek His kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. When we make God our priority He will make a way for you.

There’s another verse in Psalm 91 that makes it even more clear that there’s a correlation between your relationship with God and your provision.

Psalm 91 verse 1 says…

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

That entire chapter makes it abundantly clear that if you operate your life in God’s righteousness, all kinds of calamities can happen but you will experience rest in God’s faithfulness. He will be your shield of protection. This is especially potent right now while we’re going through this coronavirus season. The Bible says that if you dwell in the shelter of the Most High, you will not fear the pestilence, nor the plague, nor any terrors. No harm will overtake you.

So, acknowledge the authority of God in your life and live under his protection. Call upon the Lord today and He will answer you. God will satisfy you with a long life. Be encouraged today and release your worries, fears, and anxieties to God and take refuge in Him and he will deliver you.
