It's Here

The new album, Genesis, is finally here.  There's a picture of it in my hand.  I can't tell you how excited I am to finally have the finished copy in my hands.

It's been quite a journey trying to get this album recorded and produced.  Right in the middle of recording, I suffered terrible migraine headaches that had me down for a couple of months.  I also planned a benefit concert during the recording time.  That doesn't sound like a big deal, but if you saw me planning for the benefit concert while also trying to schedule time to record, it was a mess.  Just that alone could have caused a nervous breakdown.  Needless to say, I've learned my lesson.  Never plan two big things at the same time.  DUH...  If I ever try to do that again, I give you permission to slap me.

Unfortunately though, one of my favorite songs didn't make it on the album - "My Red Shoes."  This song was a big hit at a house concert I did a while back.  The host even let us borrow her red shoes for a demonstration.  I did have some of it recorded, but I needed more time and money to do what I really want to do with it.  So maybe, you'll see it show up some time in the near future.  Let's keep our fingers crossed.  :)

The name of the album is Genesis, and each song on the album describes a personal genesis I (or a friend of mine) experienced in careers, relationships, spirituality, and even hair choices, if you can believe that.  There is a song about my decision to grow my hair out naturally in all of its kinky glory aptly titled, "The Natural Hair Song."  It has received very positive feedback in the blogosphere and it has led me to something I didn't think I would be doing this soon - going on tour.  Granted, it is a small tour, but it is indeed a tour.  I'm calling it the Natural Girl Tour of the mid-south.  I'll be visiting hair shows, hair meet-ups, churches, and hair salons in cities such as Nashville, Memphis, Tunica, and hopefully Atlanta, Huntsville, and somewhere in South Carolina.  So if you're keeping count, that's two albums and a tour in two years of business.  Not bad for a shy girl from New Orleans!  I'm already making plans for an international tour next year.  Praise God!  That's how you know that you're on the right track - God keeps blessing you with opportunities.

See you next time.
