Behind the Street Art Series | Through Your Eyes

This month's Street Art Series features Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark in Houston's Buffalo Bayou park. There are so many wonderful little gems in this park and the skatepark is one of them. We didn't set out coming to this park on that day. In fact we had an entirely different mural in mind. However, our first choice didn't work out for a number of reasons and we were on the hunt for another backdrop. We had some other options in mind, but settled on the skatepark.

It was the perfect day. Sunny, but not too bright. Hot as a mother. But we got through it. The funny thing about this film shoot was that coincidentally my outfit matched the backdrop to perfection! I wore an orange tank with matching orange earrings (that I made from my old guitar picks by the way) and we just so happen to choose that background because of lighting and location. It was like I was supposed to be there.

There are so many factors you have to think of when it comes to filming, it's unreal. Hats off to producers of real TV. They really have their work cut out for them.

We did this film shoot in the morning like around 10 or 11am. So my vocals were still waking up and I didn't have a chance to do any warm-ups. Ugh. Never again. Rob was a saint with the camera as always.

We did Through Your Eyes, a song from my upcoming album 'Work in Progress.'

Through Your Eyes is a love song I wrote about meeting my husband, Rob. This is how I felt when I first met him for the second time. Let me explain…

We were going to the same church at the time. I was introduced to him once. But never really got to know him. As far as I was concerned, he was just another guy at church.  But about 8 months or so later, we were assigned to lead a project together and that’s when I met him again.  That’s when I took a good look at him. Since we were supposed to work together on this project, I figured it would be a good idea to exchange contact info. So I went up to him, shook his hand, and reached for my business card. The moment when I handed him my business card I looked in his eyes for the first time and what I saw was breathtaking. He has green eyes. But I also saw something behind those eyes that really captured me. I was immediately interested and wanted to get to know him more. That was the beginning of our journey together.

Here are the lyrics to the song…

Through Your Eyes by Anitra Jay

Eyes are windows to your soul. Eyes may betray your words, so be careful what you say. Because I will know what you think of me with one look in your eyes.

And I will see that you dream, by the way you stare outside. Every crystal cave and every stream, makes its way through you gleam. I will know…

Through your eyes, through your eyes Through your eyes. When I first met you, I was lost in your eyes. They were beautiful. They were green and pure. If purity has a name it would be yours.
